SETI Anomalies?

I am absolutely fascinated by the possibility of extraterrestrial intelligence. It has been something of a lifetime dream of mine to witness the confirmation of finding evidence of not just extraterrestrial life, but of evidence for extraterrestrial intelligence before I pass away. It is probably the number one scientific concept that I consistantly think about in my private "mental spare time". While finding truely extraterrestrial life (or "shadow life" on earth) in itself would be such an exhilerating find, I think (as many other scientists would believe) that finding intelligence would be the greatest discovery in all of science.

The famous Drake's Equation is a statistical attempt at calculating what number of technologically advanced extraterrestrial civilizations currently exist within our Milky Way galaxy and I have added a page on this website where I give my personal values to each factor. You can find that page here.

On this page I will accumulate possible evidence for extraterrestrial life, intelligence, and technology. Let me clear, though: this "evidence" must be viewed with a skeptical mindset as none of these articles and reports come with any type of unanimity or scientifically confirmed consensus. While some may have more much more scientific consensus than others, they are all reports that I personally find very interesting. Another note I'd like to make is that there may be some reports on ths site that may later find reasonable scientific unanimity against them having nothing to do with an SETI explanation, but may still be kept on the page for reference or historical purposes.

So, keep watching and listening to the stars...they may be teaching!

Constant Radio Sources

  • CTA-102

This was a radio source discovered in the early 1960's and was thought by the Russian atronomer Nikolai Kardashev in 1963 to be from a Type II or III ET civilization. It has been found, however, to be from a quasar.

  • Mysterious radio waves emitted from nearby galaxy

Very strong radio source located in the galaxy M82, which is about 12 million light-years away. The radio source rapidly brightened and remains so to this day. It was discovered in May 2009.

Single Pulse Radio Sources

  • Radio Transient: PSR J1928+15

A 1.44GHz 2 minute transient signal observed in the galactic disk 26,000 light-years away near the galactic center by the Arecibo observatory in 2005.

  • SETI@Home: Signal SHGb02+14a, SHGb02+14a

The weak radio source was observed at frequency 1420 MHz in March 2003 by the Arecibo radio observatory and has been observed at least 3 times. It has a drift rate of 8 to 37 Hz/sec in the direction of the constellations of Pisces and Aries.
